Biodiversity⁺ Design Hub

TEALEAVES X OCADU 'Design4' Internship
UI/UX Design, 2021-22

The Biodiversity⁺ Design Hub is an open-source educational platform built to support biodiversity initiatives. Thought leaders — including artists, academics, designers, journalists — working in different areas of biodiversity, are sharing their work on this platform.

Project Goals

The Biodiversity⁺ Design Hub began as a collaborative project between OCAD University's 'Design4' program and TEALEAVES that tasked students, which included myself, with designing and developing a TEALEAVES pro-bono project supporting the United Nations Biodiversity and World Biodiversity Forum to solve for X (biodiversity loss, climate change, etc.). The goal is to establish an immersive educational and exploratory platform that supports biodiversity positive initiatives, as well as to create an online space for collaborators to share biodiversity works and topics.

Designing the Experience

Students from an array of programs including Graphic Design, Illustration and Digital Futures combined their unique skills to build this expansive experience. This collaboration helped generate three distinct versions of the Biodiversity⁺ Design Hub, each evolving from the conceptual and technical experiences of the previous iterations.

1 / 3
Current Iteration: Designed with infinite scrolling and more playfulness.
2 / 3
Second Iteration: Designed as a horizontal scroll featuring landscapes and zones.
3 / 3
First Iteration: Designed with a vertical scroll and limited interactivity.

Design Process

Throughout the entire project, I sketched and designed mockups of the experience on Adobe XD and Figma, and created visual assets to be used across the webpage. Building and helping maintain the experience on Wordpress is another one of my responsibilities.
