Nightclub Fever

Motion Design / Kinetic Typography, 2021

Exploring the principles of motion design and kinetic typography, this opening title sequence is made for a film based on a fictional virus that takes over the body's nervous system. This has the side effect of making the infected experience elevated levels of euphoria and non-stop dancing. The narrative of the film centres around a group of young adults who defy government restrictions in order to dance the night away.

Process

After generating a fictional virus and narrative, I looked for inspiration to capture the tone, energy, and visual language for the title sequence — this energy is captured in the abstract sketches shown above. This title sequence was inspired by the opening title sequence for the movie Enter The Void (2010), SOPHIE’s live show for HEAV3N Clubnight, and this music video of Bring Back My Happiness (2010) by Moby.

Due to the fast-paced and dynamic nature of the typography and visual elements, I skipped the storyboarding stage and began working directly on Adobe AfterEffects. Instead, I organized and paced the title sequence through the chosen music (“Beside Me” by Patrick Patrikios) and the order in which the credits would show.
