Subway Voices

Graphic Interactive Experience, 2019

A visualization of travelling between two TTC Subway stations displaying the ambient, robotic noise made by the train's PA system and the organic, randomized noise from human conversations.

This sketch is based on a 2D Document called "Arriving AT:", which used typography to visualize the sounds and noises I recorded while travelling from St. Patrick Station to Eglinton West Station in Toronto's TTC Line 1 Subway.

In this project, I was tasked to express/extend the formal, aesthetic, thematic, or functional aspect of a previous work I've done through coding.

The result was an interactive design that allowed the user drag to the mouse in order to experience being in the subway while “travelling between stations”. Dragging the mouse showcases the columns of automated robotic overhead voices in the background, while words said by people are floating randomly around you/the subway/the mouse.
